URGENCY FOR CONGRESS TO TAKE ACTION FOR DREAMERS

Congress has yet to pass legislative action for Dreamers, recipients of the Dream Act. The Dream Act is a bipartisan legislative act, however, DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) was an expansion by former President Barack Obama under an executive order. The Dream Act protects those that were younger than 18 years old on the date of their entry to the United States under DACA. This program protected those individuals that are undocumented to have deferred action from any removal proceedings and these applicants will be given a work permit. This program has been beneficial to almost 800,000 undocumented youths. This created conditional permanent residency for up to 8 years.

Since DACA was created under an executive agreement, this can be revoked through succession of another President. Recently, President Trump announced that under new policies, companies would be barred from renewing or issuing new work permits for Dreamers. The Trump administration delayed the cancellation of the DACA program for six months. This will give Congress time to create a replacement legislative plan for DACA recipients.

Congress has failed to enact a replacement plan for DACA recipients. Dreamers are waiting for action to be taken by Congress by the end of the year. The longer that Congress wait to pass a replacement policy of DACA, the more harm there are to Dreamers. Dreamers will be subject to harsher policies to ensure that new legislative act is properly executed. If Congress does not pass an act before the end of the year, Dreamers will be subject to deportation with less flexibilities.

There is an urgency for Congress to take action on behalf of the Dreamers as the wait can be a detriment to these youths and our economy.

El Congreso aún no aprobó medidas legislativas para los Dreamers, los beneficiarios de Dream Act. El Dream Act es un acto legislativo bipartidista, sin embargo, DACA (Acción Diferida para los Llegados en la Infancia) fue una expansión del presidente Barack Obama bajo una orden ejecutiva. El Dream Act protege aquellos menores de 18 años en la fecha de su entrada a los Estados Unidos bajo DACA. Este programa protegió a las personas que no están documentadas, de tener acción diferida de cualquier procedimiento de deportación y estos solicitantes recibirán un permiso de trabajo. Este programa ha sido beneficioso para casi 800,000 jóvenes indocumentados. Esto creó la residencia permanente condicional por hasta 8 años.

Dado que DACA se creó bajo un acuerdo ejecutivo, esto puede revocarse mediante la sucesión de otro presidente. Recientemente, el presidente Trump anunció que bajo nuevas normas, las compañías no podrán renovar o emitir nuevos permisos de trabajo para Dreamers. La administración de Trump demoró la cancelación del programa DACA por seis meses. Esto dará tiempo al Congreso para crear un plan legislativo de reemplazo para los beneficiarios de DACA.

El Congreso no ha promulgado un plan de reemplazo para los beneficiarios de DACA. Los Dreamers esperan que el Congreso tome medidas antes de fin de año. Mientras más tiempo espere el Congreso para aprobar el reemplazo de DACA, más daño habrá para los Dreamers. Los Dreamers estarán sujetos a pólizas más estrictas para garantizar que el nuevo acto legislativo se ejecute correctamente. Si el Congreso no aprueba un acto antes de fin de año, los Dreamers estarán sujetos a deportación con menos flexibilidades.

Existe una urgencia para que el Congreso tome medidas en nombre de los Dreamers, ya que la espera puede ser perjudicial para estos jóvenes y nuestra economía.
